In the north-west of Abruzzo you can visit many places which are important for the history,
tradition, art and architecture.
Colonnella is located in a position that allows you to see both the sea and the mountain.
Characteristic is the Staircase access to the hold town centre, an integral part of the town. Outside
the Municipal Building, there is a bronze image of Giordano Bruno.
Civitella del Tronto
It's a town full of charm, famous for its fortress, rampart of The Bourbons, a real fortified citadel; in
the centre it is possible to admire the elegant medieval and Renaissance houses as well as many
churches and historic buildings.
Full of ancient architectural monuments, among which an important necropolis of the Iron Age and
some burials, you can also admire the Churches of St. Nicholas and St. Francis. The built-up area is
dominated by the Fortress Balascio, founded around the year one thousand.
It represents one of the most important tourist destination of Abruzzo. It's the homeland of famous
master potters, who served The King of Naples. It is known for its hand-crafted shops and it is
renamed "The City of Ceramics", whose origins date back to the XII century and, since then, this
fine art is handed down from father to soon.
City of Wine
You will see the artistic and landscape heritage along the wine and food itineraries, which allow you
to appreciate the cultivation on the hills and local products, such as fresh and aged cheeses, extra
virgin olive oil, vegetables, homemade cold cuts and the excellent wines of Abruzzo: Trebbiano,
Montepulciano and Cerasuolo.
Gran Sasso National Park
The Town of Civitella del Tronto is one of the town from which you can leave for an excursion in
the great Gran Sasso National Park and Monti della Laga, characterized by rich vegetation and the
presence of herbivores such as the Chamois of Abruzzo, the deer and the roe deer; and also
predators such as the wolf, the wild cat and the golden eagle.
From Alba Adriatica you can easily reach the attractions of the Marche region, such as: Ascoli Piceno, Offida, Ripatransone, Recanati, the Sanctuary of Loreto and the Frasassi Caves, will also be possible to arrange day trips to places like: L'Aquila, Rome, San Marino, Assisi, Tremiti Islands, San Giovanni Rotondo (Padre Pio), the National Park of Abruzzo and the Maiella Massif.
